The good people of Wandsworth love a bit of self-care; it’s the future of modern urban living, drawing a healthy line between the hectic workday and everything else.
A local business that’s helping people stay grounded and find harmony is SOMA Yoga. We caught up with owner Gea to find out more.
Tell us a bit about who you are and what you do.
I’m Gea, the owner of SOMA Yoga studio in Battersea Reach.
We offer yoga, meditation, yoga therapy, and prenatal and postnatal therapy to help you live life in harmony.
How did SOMA Yoga come about?
SOMA grew out of my strong desire to build a local yoga community, where we can connect in a meaningful way and practice yoga to live a more resilient and peaceful life.
What can people expect at YOMA?
It doesn’t matter if you’re an experienced student of yoga or a complete beginner, you can find a class that’s perfect for you at our Wandsworth studio.
Expect a soulful, creative yoga-flow without a dogmatic approach. Our studio offers a welcoming community, and gorgeous riverside views.
What would you say to anyone considering taking up yoga?
Just give it a try! It doesn’t matter if you’re not flexible or physically strong, you don’t need to talk yourself out of something that is good for you. Our yoga mats will always be there for you.
When starting out it’s always best to choose a beginner’s class as this will give you a light and gentle introduction to yoga. You can also arrive a little earlier so that you can speak to your yoga teacher, get to know them and ask any questions you may have.
All you need is bare feet and comfy clothes – we’ll take care of the rest.
How can we get involved?
We have a variety of membership options to suit your needs, whether you’d prefer continuous daily practice, the occasional drop in, or weekend workshops.
If you’re looking to get a taste of SOMA, we are running an introductory offer of three classes for just £20 (excludes prenatal), which you can book online.
Once you have experienced SOMA for yourself we can work together to find the ideal membership for you.
What do you love about Wandsworth?
Ever since we opened at Battersea Reach I’ve been continuously inspired by the strong sense of community. I was touched by how friendly everyone is and there’s a general optimism among the people of Wandsworth; they want everyone to thrive!
It’s also been lovely to connect with local small business owners and see how we can support one another.
Above all, we love the residents and neighbours who support is day in and day out.
