Beer by the River Week is back, and what a scorcher it’s looking to be, too!
We caught up with Kieran at Sambrook’s to get the lowdown on this year’s event, explore the brewery’s history, and learn more about their famous pints.
What’s the story of Sambrook’s?
Sambrook’s is London’s oldest independent brewery, brewing from the UK’s longest continually brewing site, circa 1550! Duncan Sambrook started it all in 2008, and since then Sambrook’s has carved its name deep into the heart of the craft beer world.
Our mission is to make the best beer and inspire happiness with the finest hospitality London has to offer. We moved into our historic home at Ram Quarter in 2021.
What are some of your best brews at the moment?
Our two big hitters right now are our Pagoda Pilsner and Block Party IPA, both are session-able and the perfect gateway beers into the world of craft beer.
What can we expect from Beer by the River Week 2023?
Our legendary beer fest is back this week (4-10 September), and it looks like summer has returned, too. This year’s event also marks our 15th anniversary, so we’re going all out to celebrate with exceptional craft beer, live music, comedy, and more.
You can find our full programme of events for Beer by the River Week on Instagram, or you can download the new We Are Wandsworth Town app for full details [download the app for iOS and Android from the App Store or Google Play].
What other events do you have in the calendar?
We’re gearing up to the Rugby World Cup! We’ll be screening all the action across four giant screens and we’ll have a fan zone set up.
We’re also getting ready for Oktoberfest 2023, so watch this space.
Your pizza menu is mouth-watering, do you have a favourite?
The Angel’s Share! It’s different but delectable; unreal dough, a spinach base (trust us!), goats’ cheese, toasted walnuts, lemon zest and spicy honey. We also make it as a 6″ personal pie, so it’s the ideal pairing with a Sambrook’s beer.
Tell us about your heritage tours.
Our tours are led by brewing legend John Hatch and will guide you through a tutored tasting session before moving onto the Heritage Centre, where you’ll explore various exhibits explaining the complex history of the site, and how beer has been brewed here for almost five centuries!
The tour lasts approximately 60 minutes and finishes with a complimentary pint from our famous cask ale range.

What’s your favourite thing about Wandsworth Town?
The community. We are lucky to have the most amazing guests frequent our establishment, and we’re super proud to be people’s local. If you get to have a pint of brewery-fresh beer along the way, that’s an amazing win.
