Logistics goes green in Wandsworth

Cross River Partnership (CRP) has launched its latest six-month micro logistics hub trial at Southside Shopping Centre’s car park, as part of their wider plans to create a greener, fairer and safer logistics sector in London.

The CRP trial supports low-emission last-mile deliveries in Wandsworth and surrounding areas, with deliveries also operating to the neighbouring boroughs of Richmond and Merton.

Sustainable final-mile courier Delivery Mates have been selected to operate daily, extending their same day, next day and on demand parcel delivery service to residents and businesses.

Parcels are received into the hub from an electric delivery vehicle before being sorted into delivery routes, loaded and distributed by electric cargo bikes in the surrounding area.

The scheme will run until February 2024.

Councillor Judi Gasser, Cabinet Member for Environment, Wandsworth Council, said: “We are determined to clean up Wandsworth’s air and reduce carbon emissions, so we are delighted to be part of this trial.”

Kevin Savage, CEO, Delivery Mates, said: “Opening micro logistics hubs and using cargo bikes to deliver is now proven to reduce congestion, remove emissions, and create a better environment for all residents and visitors.”

Susannah Wilks, Director of Cross River Partnership, added: “CRP is pleased to deliver this micro logistics hub trial in Wandsworth.”
