Lidl’s new Southside store launch date revealed

Lidl GB has confirmed that its new Wandsworth store in Southside Shopping Centre will officially open on Thursday 13th June. The new store will open with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 8am attended by the Mayor of Wandsworth, Sana Jafri.

The new store’s opening hours will be between 8am and 9pm throughout Monday to Saturday and from 10:30am for browsing on Sunday, with tills open from 11am to 5pm.

With a sales area of 1,136 m2, the new store will provide Wandsworth residents with easy access to the discounter’s affordable, quality products. This includes its much-loved bakery, which was recently crowned the UK’s most popular supermarket bakery, beating both Tesco and Sainsbury’s.

Representing a significant investment, the new Lidl store has created around 40 new jobs, with colleagues set to receive one of the highest rates of pay in the sector following three pay rises in the past 12 months.

Max Clapton, Regional Head of Property at Lidl GB, commented: “As our customer base continues to grow in the capital, we can’t wait to open our Wandsworth store, giving even more people access to our high-quality products at the lowest possible prices. We would like to thank all those who have played a part in delivering this new store and look forward to welcoming customers through the doors.”

Rebecca Ruddle, Centre Director at Southside Shopping Centre, added: “We’re thrilled to be home to the area’s first Lidl store. The new addition signifies the start of several enhancements we’re making here at Southside to ensure we continue to provide a great retail, food and leisure destination in the heart of Wandsworth.

“Lidl is dedicated to offering quality products at affordable prices, complementing our goal of providing diverse and convenient shopping options for our visitors, and we’re confident Lidl will receive a warm welcome by the local community when it officially opens its doors on 13th June.”

The discounter – which hit a market share high of 8.1% and has been the fastest-growing bricks and mortar supermarket for the past nine months – is doubling down on its commitment to making good food accessible to everyone. In the capital alone, it overtook Asda to become the third-largest supermarket last year.

Building on this momentum, Lidl recently revealed a wish list of locations for new stores in London, from Camden to Clapham and Shoreditch to Notting Hill. This follows plans to open hundreds of new stores across the country, including locations in Fulham, Hoxton, and Canning Town.
