School’s Out! Summer fun in Wandsworth Town

As Alice Cooper once famously sang, “School’s out for summer”, and while it may not be out “for ever”, there’s certainly a lot of fun to be had over the next few weeks in SW18.

Grow their confidence

Performing arts isn’t necessarily about getting your kid’s name up in bright lights. It can also be a fantastic process for inspiring their imagination and growing their confidence.

Jigsaw Wandsworth’s summer camp will run from Monday 12 to Friday 16 August at West Hill Primary School.

In their own words…

In much the same way as our weekend classes, our week-long summer camps for children helpĀ build confidence, social skills and self-esteem and are always lots of fun!

Students at our performing arts summer camp are split into age-appropriate groups and work on interactive and engaging performing arts activities around an exciting theme. Each day is filled with singing, dancing, drama activities, friendship building games, prop and art making, all while working together to create show in a week!

Book your place.

Group64, our friends up the road at Putney Arts Theatre, are also hosting holiday projects this summer, including A Journey to the Upside Down for 11-16 year olds, and Snow Princess and Superheroes! for ages 4-7.

Get up off’a that thing

Worried about the little ones not getting enough activity over the summer break? Fret not, there are some fantastic ways to get your kids moving and shaking this summer.

Wandsworth boasts not one, not two, but three indoor climbing facilities! Traverse wild and colourful obstacle courses at Clip ‘n Climb; master your abilities at The Font; and reach new heights at Parthian Climbing. Got a birthday coming up? Both Clip ‘n Climb and The Font host kids’ parties, too!

Speaking of parties, Gymfinity Kids can also create unforgettable birthday memories for your little tykes. They also offer fantastic gymnastic, dance and ninja clubs, and run special holiday camps over the summer.

If your kids are still feeling inspired by all the action on Centre Court at Wimbledon, then sign up for All Star Tennis. Not only does this wonderful community sports facility offer junior clubs for ages three and up, they also run summer holiday camps!

Out of this world entertainment

Wandsworth is the original home of Gravity Max, the all-in-one entertainment complex at Southside that features indoor karting, virtual reality, arcade games, e-sports, bowling, crazy golf, darts, VR immersive rooms, and more. Yes, really; it’s all under one roof. And there’s even some bar areas for grown ups to enjoy.

Reading is fundamental

As RuPaul says reading is fundamental, and there’s no better place to dive into a good book than Wandsworth Town Library. Fuel their imagination with a library membership and give your young ones unlimited access to a world of possibilities.

Wandsworth Town Library also hosts a selection of fun activities for kids to get involved with, including board game clubs, colouring, and Lego!

Order up!

Did you know that a lot of young people are really getting into cooking and baking? Did you also know there’s a local cookery school that offers classes for children? From fresh bread to ice cream, The Avenue’s junior cookery classes will help your child master the art of the kitchen, and quite possibly give you something tasty to enjoy, too.

Sweet treats

All in moderation, as they say. Wandsworth is home to some pretty tasty offerings, so if you’re looking to treat your little one to something tasty then look no further than Mooboo. Aside from the fact their bubble teas look absolutely gorgeous, they also have an incredible range of flavours, from creamy shakes to fruit fusions, milk teas, and more.

Looking for something a little more solid? Yaya Cakes at Southside stocks a mouth-watering range of fresh-baked goods, including cookies, cupcakes, brownies, and blondies. Makes us hungry just thinking about it.

Big screen action

Southside is the home of Cineworld Wandsworth and there are some big titles making their way to the big screen this summer. As well as animated comedy capers Despicable Me 4 and Inside Out 2; Cineworld will also be showing all the Spider-Man movies; that’s right, ALL OF THEM. From Tobey Maguire to Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland.
