October is Black History Month in the UK, a time for us to reflect and celebrate black heritage and culture, not just across the country, but in our communities, too.
Here are some of the events you can get involved in this Black History Month in Wandsworth Town.
Street food market

On Saturday 14 October, to coincide with the market, local legend and boxing champion Frank Bruno will be at Southside, signing copies of his autobiography – 60 Years a Fighter. The book charts his rise as a successful British sports’ star as well as his struggles with mental health.
Sheroes exhibition
Black female founders and community heroines are celebrated in this photo exhibition, which is open at Wandsworth Town Hall from 21 to 31 October.
Read black history
Waterstones Wandsworth has created a stunning wall display of celebrated black writers, including iconic storytellers like Sam Selvon and Ralph Ellison and modern literary heroes like Zadie Smith and Chigozie Obioma.
