How long have you worked at Southside Shopping Centre? I have worked here since the Summer of 2018, so three very interesting and eventful years!
What do you think makes Southside Shopping Centre unique? Southside is a local and bustling shopping hub in the heart of Wandsworth – with the River Wandle through it! During its construction in 1970, the river was culverted and runs underneath Southside from Mapleton Crescent to the Ram Quarter. We fit in very well with the local community and provide something for everyone to enjoy – great restaurants, street food, shops and a 4DX Cinema.
What do you love about Wandsworth Town? There is a wonderful variety of shops, restaurants and entertainment venues – Backyard Cinema is a great experience! I also love Old York Road and the independent shops providing a great selection of fresh produce such as a bakers and a locally sourced butchers – what more could you want?
Any exciting news about Southside? Our large 85,000 sq ft unit which used to house Debenhams is now being converted into London’s first Active Entertainment Centre: Gravity. They’re converting the space to provide a selection of family entertainment including a Japanese E-karting area, a dedicated street bar and noodle kitchen, a New York-themed restaurant, Augmented Reality Bowling and high-end cocktail bar complete the experience. Gravity are due to open in July 2021 and we at Southside can’t wait!
What events are you looking forward to in Wandsworth Town? I am really looking forward to the exciting summer events planned – like The Wandsworth Arts Fringe. It’s been really good to see shoppers back in town after the recent lockdown, I think the planned summer events will help to further liven the Town Centre. Later in the year I am looking forward to our Christmas lights switch on event so Southside can show off its new decorations.
