If you’ve seen or visited Southside Wandsworth lately you’ll have seen the new signage out on the piazza, heralding the arrival of SW18’s latest coffee joint: Black Sheep Coffee.
We caught up with the brains behind this caffeine-fuelled outfit to find out what you can expect from 7 February.
For those new to Black Sheep Coffee, tell us who you are and what you do.
Black Sheep Coffee started in 2013 when university flatmates Eirik and Gabriel decided to #LeaveTheHeardBehind and embark on an exciting new coffee adventure. Their mission is to challenge the establishment, take down the big corporate brands, and rid the world of boring, average tasting coffee.
We are the only retail coffee company in the world to serve 100% specialty grade Robusta coffee, and the only coffee house in the UK to have it as a speciality house bean. Our coffee is bought directly from the plantations, ensuring the picking, drying and washing process adheres to the strictest of guidelines for a sustainable model that protects the environment and everyone involved.
What can we expect at Black Sheep Coffee Wandsworth?
We’re absolutely thrilled to be coming to the awesome town of Wandsworth! We’ll be serving our full range of single-origin coffees and extensive milk and alt-milk options, along with our signature Norwegian waffles, organic smoothies and shakes, and freshly baked pastries. Our customers can still expect to come in and get their regular coffee, but with the Black Sheep twist, an immersive urban experience combined with music and art.
We still offer the standard range of coffees; latte, cappuccino, flat white, etc., but we also have our own range of signature drinks, including the Black Hoof, Vietnamese Iced Coffee, Turmeric Latte, and Honey Oat Cardamom Latte. You’ll #LeaveTheHerdBehind and no longer bother with boring, average coffee.
What makes Black Sheep Coffee different from other high street coffee shops?
In a market dominated by Arabica we’re the Black Sheep because we serve 100% specialty grade Robusta coffee. The Robusta Revival has a higher rate of absorption than Arabica beans, which creates a more intense and long-lasting caffeine effect, resulting a much more powerful coffee experience.
One of our core values of the brand is sustainability and being the leaders of the pack for a future of sustainable coffee brands. All our takeaway packaging is recyclable. As technology is advancing, so are we.
Another strong value of our business is fighting social exclusion. In all our stores we have a Free Coffee Board where customers can leave their fully stamped loyalty cards, or purchase a card at a discounted price to be put on the board, and anyone who can’t afford a coffee or hot drink can redeem these cards free of charge.
Will customers be able to purchase coffee beans and pods in store?
Customers will be able to purchase both bags of coffee beans and Nespresso compatible pods in store. If they need ground coffee, beans can be purchased and the team will be more than happy to ground them to your liking. Our five different varieties of coffee can be purchased – Robusta Revival, Blue Volcano, Love Berries, Bossa Nova, and Rebel Decaf. The bags come in 227g and 1kg sizes, and the pods come in a box of 10.
