As the long Easter weekend is just days away we thought we’d take a timeout with Dawn at Lockdown Bakehouse to find out what themed treats are coming fresh out the oven and explore their rise to success in SW18, and beyond.

Tell us who you are and what you do.
We are Lockdown Bakehouse, a family-run business, making bread, pastries, and sweet treats for our customers in Wandsworth Town and Barnes, and supplying wholesale to cafes across London.
Our owner Chris is Australian, so you’ll always find an Aussie twist in our offerings, from Lamingtons and Tim Tams to custard slices and classic Australian pies for lunch.
How did Lockdown Bakehouse come about?
Lockdown Bakehouse was the result of the 2020 lockdown, when everything came to a standstill.
We wanted to help the local community with bread and other essentials. Our bakery queues became the talk of the town, bringing people safely together to buy bread and enjoy doughnuts and other sweet treats, all while supporting a small local business.
Our Wandsworth Town bakery is still as popular as ever, and it’s enabled us to grow and open a second location in Barnes, as well as supplying wholesale to around 150 London cafes every night!
Lockdown Bakehouse is a real local gem. What makes it so unique?
We’re real people with a real passion to make amazing, fresh products that continually exceed expectations.
Everything we offer is made on-site by our excellent team of pastry chefs and bakers. There’s no airs and graces with Lockdown Bakehouse, we’re all about great food, great coffee, and friendly staff.
What’s your favourite bake at the moment?
If I’m craving something sweet then it has to be our in-house laminated pastries. The team works so hard to perfect these and are always playing around with different flavours.
We even bake plant-based croissants and pain au chocolats!
For the savoury options, it’s a close call between our signature sourdough loaf or a hot sausage roll, straight from the oven.
What seasonal treats can we pick up for Easter?
We have a selection of Easter treats for both adults and little ones, like our delicious Creme Egg doughnuts and Mini Egg brownies!
What’s your favourite thing about Wandsworth Town?
There’s a real sense of community here. Our customers have been coming to us since those long queues during lockdown, and we remain part of their weekly routine.
We also have huge respect for our local emergency service workers who come in for their discounted coffee and lunch every day.
