Wandsworth is undoubtedly the home of the workout, so it’s equally important to have local, reliable services to tend to sports injuries as well as joint and muscle pain.
We caught up with Steve Hines, founder of Wandsworth Physiotherapy & Osteopathy, to find out more.
How did Wandsworth Physiotherapy & Osteopathy come about?
I started Wandsworth Physiotherapy and Osteopathy in 2013. My background is elite sports and I wanted to bring that knowledge and skill to everyday people who love sport or suffer from pain and dysfunction.
I began with a room on Old York Road and was saturated in just a few years, so I needed more space and support.
In 2019, I opened 338 Old York Road and I’ve seen tremendous growth and uptake of our services. In fact, so much so that we now need more space and we’re looking for more treatment rooms as well as a studio space for yoga, Pilates, exercise rehab and personal training, to compliment our existing services.
What range of treatments do you offer?
If you are suffering from back or neck pain one of our expert physiotherapists or osteopaths are on hand to assess and diagnose your problem, start some manual therapy to ease your symptoms, and put together a home exercise programme so you can also help to speed your recovery at home.
We also have a range of unique services for things like shoulder pain and sports injuries. We use diagnostic ultrasound alongside our assessments to help diagnose an injury. With ultrasound we can see tendons, ligaments, joints and muscles and this can really help to pinpoint a diagnosis and get the right treatment started. Check out our website for all the services we offer.
I’m an independent prescribing physiotherapist, which means I can deliver ultrasound guided injections for knee arthritis or frozen shoulder, for example, and prescribe pain killers and anti-inflammatories if you can’t get to see your GP. We also have a shockwave device that is currently one of the best treatment methods for tendon pain (alongside load management and strengthening exercises). This is great for Achilles tendon pain, tennis elbow or patella tendon pain, and all the team are trained in using this device.
We have two experienced female physiotherapists who can help with pre and post-natal issues, a podiatrist who can perform gait assessments, a medical pedicurist to manage foot and ankle pain and perform nail surgery, and we also provide sports massage, 1:1 Pilates and yoga.
How might treatment provide help and support?
Our aim is to simply get you back to doing what you love, whatever that may be playing with your kids, going to the gym, doing CrossFit or playing a sport. We do that by working as a team with you, and referring you to the right therapists within the clinic, getting an US scan and putting the right treatment and rehab plan in place for you.
We pride ourselves on our honest reliable care. We don’t try to keep you coming back week on week for unnecessary over treatment, and always try to provide excellent service.
Of course, a lot of our patient interactions are people who are in acute pain and a lot of what we do is simple education on what is causing that pain and how to use ice, certain over the counter or prescriptions medications, and movement to ease pain. This often puts your mind at rest and eases the worry, and some of the pain, without really doing much else.
As the NHS has massive wait lists and getting an appointment can be challenging, we offer a range of various treatments with quick and easy access to a physiotherapist, osteopath, podiatrist and our GP partners from The London Doctors clinic on a Monday and Wednesday.
This year we have launched a sister company operating out of the clinic called Wandsworth Aesthetics. We have a range of facials and peels, micro needling, anti-wrinkle treatment and dermal fillers to address any issues with skin health and facial appearance.
How do we book?
Booking could not be easier. Simply go online and choose your appointment type. We have organised our appointments by service, for example if you are suffering back or neck pain simply book a Back Pain Assessment and Treatment or our Better Back and Neck Programme. If you have shoulder pain book a Shoulder Pain Assessment and Treatment with Ultrasound Scan, or similarly a Women’s Health PRE-Natal Check up.
If you’re not sure what you need you can always call our reception team who can help guide you into the right appointment and help you decide if you need an ultrasound scan or not. We also see patients from all the major private medical insurance companies. In this case you would select from the Medical Insurance drop down menu on our online booking page.
Enter some personal details – including your insurance information, if you are using it – agree to our cancelation policy and make a payment and you’re booked in, in just a few clicks.

What’s your favourite thing about Wandsworth Town?
We love how vibrant the street has become with the cafés and restaurants offering al fresco dining, and how the street has so far managed to retain smaller independent businesses like ourselves, with a diverse offering of services. With close proximity to the station and the amount of development happening in the area it looks like the street will remain the epicentre of Wandsworth Town for some time to come.
